Full Description
attribution is difficult for this chanteh. The palette and the weft float design on the back suggest a Veramin provenance but deriving an attribution from the structure is hard. The closure panel technique and design is shared by the Afshar and the Inalu but the knot excludes the latter. Now comes the good part; the bag is both single and double wefted. If it were just single wefted we would have to assign it to the Qadjar the only tribe (and the dominant tribe of the Veramin plain) of all the Kizyl Bash tribes that uses this technique. The slit tapestry design on the back is seen in Afshar work. The field design is shared by the Afshar and several tribes in both the Qashqai and Khamseh confederations of Fars. An enigma. Perhaps it was co-authored by an Afshar and a Qajar woman in the same tent.
