  • Item Type

    Saddle bag

  • Region

Khamseh Confederation, Southern & Southwest Persia

  • Date

    Late 19th century (1867 - 1899)

  • Condition

    Good

full pile but there is a 2" X 1" old repair in the field that needs to be re-dyed or perhaps redone. The two rope braids at each side of the bag have been cut off but the loops are all intact.

  • Structure

pile, asymmetric knot open left with weft-face plain weave over 2 warps back + soumak and supplemental weft float closures.

  • Materials

    wool with camel wefts.

  • Full Description

even in it's present unwashed state the pile is soft and opulent. Though the bag is probably late 19th century the dyes are vegetal and the scale of the drawing quite generous. It was stuffed when I got it hence the great preservation of the pile.
