Full Description
womans' tunic. The stated date is an amateurish guess. It could be older, doubtful it's later. My guess is based on the degree that the cochineal and indigo have mellowed. I'm sure that there are more dating clues in this tunic such as it's size and proportions or its side finishes but my knowledge of Aymara weavings is too limited to interpret them. I have noticed though that 19th century weaving generally tends to be finer spun and woven than the average for pre19th century. This weave could hardly be described as "fine".
