    complete and all original. Has a few minor nicks and slight wear. The backing has distressed sides and ends.

  • Structure

    applique. The back is composed of natural wool (no dyes) tent band strips sewn together like a kelim. One outside edge is a cotton warp faced twill. The other strips; composed of camel, goat, and wool, use multiple techniques, mostly warp faced, such a warp float, warp faced plain weave-2 warps over 2 wefts or combinations of 2 over 1, etc.

    the manner in which almost all central Asian felts manage to evoke such balance and power would seem to suggest that this technique predates weaving by a considerable number of millenniums to the point that it is almost in the peoples' DNA.
